To provide and
entertaining, informative, and educational opportunity while exploring 100 years
of Moving Picture History.
To tell the story, from the
beginning, of this all important industry and Florida's contribution. Two
examples are - The filming of the first, full length feature. 1903,
"Rough Riders", about Teddy Roosevelt. Filmed in Tampa by
Mutograph Photoplay Corp, Thomas Edison's Company. The
First Black produced motion picture "Birth of a Race", filmed in
Tampa, 1917, by the Birth of a Race Photoplay Corp.
By 1925, Tampa had over 45 film
studios, Jacksonville 100, and a large unit was in New Port Richey.
To explore development in style,
equipment, and technology that brought us so much entertainment.
To provide an opportunity for
visitors to be in captured scenes that stand out in motion picture history.
To provide an archive of historic
equipment, props and documents.
